April 30, 2007 - The fatal neurodegenerative disease ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is striking more of our nation's veterans; however, the reasons are not known at this time. National ALS Awareness Month activities in May 2007 will include ALS National Awareness Month proclamations issued by cities and states. The proclamations include a passage that acknowledges the higher prevalence of veterans with ALS. The ALS Association is the nation's only national not-for-profit voluntary health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS.
