The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Staff Sgt. Edward W. Carmen, 27 of McKeesport, Pa., died April 17, in Baghdad, Iraq when the track of the tank he was in broke, the driver lost control and the tank rolled off the bridge. Staff Sgt. Carman was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 12th Armored Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

The incident is under investigation.
