The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Pfc. Shawn C. Edwards, 20, of Bensenville, Ill., died April 23, in Samarra, Iraq, when his convoy vehicle hit an improvised explosive device. Pfc. Edwards was assigned to the Army's 121st Signal Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, from Kitzingen, Germany.

The incident is under investigation.
