The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. Jeffrey R. Shaver, 26, of Maple Valley, Wash., died May 12 in Baghdad, Iraq, when his convoy vehicle hit an improvised explosive device. Shaver was assigned to the Army National Guard,s 1st Battalion, 161st Infantry, Spokane, Wash.

The incident is under investigation.
