The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. Robert W. Hoyt, 21, of Ashford, Conn., died Dec. 11 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV while conducting convoy operations. Hoyt was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 102nd Infantry Regiment, Bristol, Conn.
